Plantes méditerranéennes et changement climatique
Join the
Alliance Française d'Oxford for a group visit of the exhibition Mediterranean Plants and Climate Change at the Oxford
Botanic Garden.
During this two-hour walk and talk around the Botanic Garden, we will discuss the challenges of gardening in Oxford in a changing climate, often oscillating between drought and floods, and the opportunities that can arise for the gardener. We will take a closer look at some Mediterranean plants, an important part of the Garden's collections since its founding in the 17th century, talk about their habits and habitats, and see which may be suitable for the Oxford climate, and how to help them thrive.
cultiver.
Thèmes: climat, changement climatique, jardins, jardin botanique, horticulture, plantes méditerranéennes.
Our guide for the visit is Hélène Tronc. Hélène is the Garden Supervisor at the University of Oxford Botanic Garden, the oldest botanic garden in the UK, founded in 1621 and home to a collection of over 5000 species of plants. Before embracing horticulture professionally, Hélène worked as a translator for many years. She studied French literature and classics at the ENS Ulm and at the Sorbonne in Paris, and holds a Master's in Classics and a Master's in Art History. When she isn't gardening in Oxford, Hélène restores an abandoned olive grove in the garrigue of the Languedoc.
