Le dernier jour d'un condamné - Victor Hugo 

Nous ne saurons pas qui est le condamné, nous ne saurons rien du crime qu'il a commis. Car le propos de l'auteur n'est pas d'entrer dans un débat mais d'exhiber l'horreur et l'absurdité de la situation dans laquelle se trouve n'importe quel homme à qui l'on va trancher le cou dans quelques heures. Avec un récit à la première personne, Victor Hugo nous plonge dans les dernières 24 heures de vie d’un homme condamné, tout en dénonçant la peine capitale.
